VESC 6.0 - Le nouveau VESC

Je suis le développement du v6 depuis pas mal de temps et vraiment, il cite beaucoup d’améliorations pompées sur Vedder (voir le sujet du v6 : « Session After Work - Jeudi 10 septembre 2015 - Paris ») :

  • Forme en L pour séparer commande et puissance
  • Rapprocher les condos des mosfets
  • Mettre tous les mosfets sur le même côté du PCB
  • Designer une case en alu
  • Placer les pads de connexions de puissance de part et d’autres du PCB pour éviter les court-circuits
  • Connecteur micro usb

Sorry for being away for a while, I have many things going on right now. Here are some updates about the next VESC version:

  • I decided to give phase shunts a try after all, using the AD8418.

  • Single-PCB design for now. By shaping the PCB like an L the electrolytic caps can be placed right below the power stage and the power cables can come in from one side while the motor cables leave from the other side without crossing any components.

  • The main focus is on the power stage:

  • Short traces with large area
  • directFETs on one side so that a heatsink can be added easily
  • Short distance to ceramic caps
  • Motor and battery wires enter from the edges without crossing other components
  • Three shunts

The schematic is attached.

I’m quite confident that the power stage is more robust than before, and the control will be better on difficult motors with three shunts, so the performance for difficult motors such as RC cars should be significantly improved.

I’m planning to make a CNC:ed aluminum enclosure for good thermal connection to the FETs and protection. With just one PCB and the cables and capacitors arranged as shown above, assembly should be easy and the thermal conduction good. The hight of the case with the capacitors included can probably be less than 20mm and the width and height something like 65x65 mm. This is nice for mouting the VESC together with 18650-cells.

If having the shunts on the phases works well I might make another two PCB version, where essentially the left side of the L is placed above the capacitors and power stage. The will reduce the width, but the thickness is increased and the assembly will become more complicated.

The connector placement and connector choice is not done yet, so I will probably change the usb connector to some micro usb variant and move the connectors and some other components around. If everything goes well I will place the order at the end of this week.

Et dire que sur ek8 builders, ils applaudissent tous les prouesses d’ingénierie de Jason.

When I was a kid my mother told me if you want something Jason don’t expect anyone else to make it happen for you. Just do it.

Sa mère aurait dû insister sur le fait que copier c’est pas innover.
